Atlanta DJ faces Murder Charge in Shooting

February 10th, 2012 | By admin

DJ Outlaw Faces Murder Charges

This past Wednesday a Fulton County judge ruled that a popular DJ should face felony murder and other charges in the shooting death of a nightclub customer, Channel 2 Action News reported. DJ Outlaw who’s real name is Johnny Jackson III is accused of killing a man in the parking lot of the nightclub Rockafellas, where he worked on Old National Highway. Jackson is claiming “self defense” but he shot the victim five times. One witness, Rittberg said, told police that she saw Jackson “fire a couple of times and then stand over the victim and fire more.” The incident occurred the night of Jan. 16. The victim Mark Williams allegedly attacked Jackson in the club for not playing his CD and was told to leave. Later, the deejay said he was outside walking to his truck when he saw Williams approaching with a gun in his hand. Morris Fair, Jackson’s defense attorney, argued that Jackson fired his own weapon in self-defense.

“You have an absolute right to defend yourself if you feel you’re being threatened. And you have the right to use force — deadly force if necessary,” Fair said but police and prosecutors said witnesses told them they did not see Williams with a gun. Nor was a weapon found on his body, they said. The Judge Karen Woodson found there was probable cause to send the case to a grand jury. Besides felony murder, Jackson faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Nicki Minaj’s New Music Video BANNED from BET!!!

February 2nd, 2012 | By @HYPEMANCOOPSDM

Don’t expect to catch Nicki Minaj’s latest music video “Stupid H*e” on BET — because TMZ has learned the network is REFUSING to air it.

We spoke with a rep for BET who wouldn’t specify exactly why the network has banned the video — simply saying BET will not be broadcasting it.

But sources at the company tell us, the ban was put in place because the video’s just too explicit for TV.

The song lyrics alone are bad enough — repeating the phrase “stupid h*e” dozens of times — but the video itself is damn raunchy too, showing several nearly naked female figures. Normally this is where we’d post the video … but in this case, just Google it.

It’s pretty great — especially if you like Nicki’s butt in a thong.

Don Cornelius, host of Soul Train, Found DEAD in home!

February 1st, 2012 | By @OfficialSocorro

This is a sad and tragic moment for black history, “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius was found dead at his Sherman Oaks on home Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement sources said police arrived at Cornelius’ home around 4 a.m. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.

The sources said there was no sign of foul play, but the Los Angeles Police Department was investigating.

In a 2010 interview with The Times, he said he was excited about a movie project he was developing about “Soul Train.”

“We’ve been in discussions with several people about getting a movie off the ground. It wouldn’t be the ‘Soul Train’ dance show, it would be more of a biographical look at the project,” he said. “It’s going to be about some of the things that really happened on the show.”

According to a Times article, Cornelius’ “Soul Train” became the longest-running first-run nationally syndicated show in television history, bringing African American music and style to the world for 35 years.

Cornelius stopped hosting the show in 1993, and “Soul Train” ceased production in 2006 and his saying, “Love, peace, and sooouulll!” will live on forever! I pray that God rests his soul, because Mr. Cornelius you will be missed.

Drake Says Common Beef Was Not “Hip-Hop” And He Won’t Be Responding!

January 30th, 2012 | By @HYPEMANCOOPSDM

Back in November when Common dropped “Sweet”, the second single from his most recent full length, a couple of lines that sounded suspiciously like shots at Drake immediately caught people’s attention. Com beat around the bush for a while, as rappers are known to do, before eventually admitting that those shots were in fact aimed at the young superstar. Strongly worded statements were then exchanged between the two on the original version of Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin” and a subsequent remix before the conflict appeared to fizzle.

Common told Rolling Stone last week that he’s finished with the beef and Drake has had ample time to record a response if he felt the need to do so. I recently caught up with him while he was on the set of his video for “The Zone” with The Weeknd and asked him about another “controversial” line from “Stay Schemin”, whether we should expect a second Common response and if there was any truth to the rumor that he fired his entire staff.

So people want to know: will you respond to Common?
No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a “hip hop moment” or a “battle for the sake of musical integrity”…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.

There’s a line from your “Stay Schemin” verse about Kobe’s soon to be ex-wife Vanessa that has gotten some negative attention. Can you speak to what you were trying to express with that line?
That line came from a conversation about being this young and making this much money and the fear of losing it all. I just used his potential situation to address my own life. I never intended to offend Vanessa or anyone else. That line had everything to do with me and what goes on in my head as a 25 year old man with this much income flowing in. Kobe is and always will be a friend and an icon to me.

Following the release of Take Care, rumors started to circulate that you had fired your entire staff, was there any truth to that?
No my team is stronger than ever and ready for 2012. I’m excited for what this year will bring.

What are your plans for OVO/XO?
OVO and XO will grow immensely both separately and together this year. The Weeknd is about to hit the road and come perform all that incredible music for his fans. I’m looking forward to piecing something together where we can share a stage and give people the full experience.

What’s next for you, besides the tour?
I have begun working on new music already and I’ll be recording during the whole college tour with 40. Making better music and building myself as a business is all that’s on my mind. Hopefully some acting as well.

Maybach Music Acquiring A New Member?!

January 26th, 2012 | By @HYPEMANCOOPSDM

My boy @djfrosty was in the lab doing some twatching earlier today and spotted something between a certain West Coast artist and Maybach Music’s official Twitter that could imply MMG will be having an addition to their roster. Check out the tweet below to find out who that is!

Nipsey, a known West Coast emcee, RT’d Maybach Music’s tweet about an MMG West coming soon! Obviously he’s co-signing it, so could this mean he’ll soon be shouting M-m-m-m-Maybach Music?! I guess we’ll soon see!

Diddy In Works To Launch Cable Network

January 24th, 2012 | By admin

Diddy to launch Cable Network December 2012

Sean Combs, the entertainment impresario known as Diddy, is planning to launch a music-themed cable network, according to three sources with knowledge of his plans. The channel is called Revolt and is aiming to launch at the end of the year–12/12/12, to be specific.

Sources with knowledge of the Revolt playbook describe it as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One described it as the old days of MTV, but for more of the African American audience. The venture is well funded, say the sources. Comcast will provide distribution as part of its commitment to the FCC to help launch minority owned networks.
